Road Runners

Chapel Hill's running program is for anyone interested in Grades 1st through 5th.  Practices are held every Monday evening from 2:45 - 3:25 p.m. (rain or shine) at CHES. The following is a typical agenda that will be followed at most Roadrunner practices:

 

  • A short time of fellowship

  • Check-in, upcoming events, or other related information

  • Warm-up and stretching

  • Cardiovascular exercise (20-30 minute jog or other fun activity)

  • Water or sports drink to cool down (bring your own drink) 

  • Time for more fellowship with one another

 

Dear parent(s):

This is an after school running club for 1st-5th graders that meets on Mondays from 2:45-3:25. Space is limited to 72 students. The fall season starts Sept. 9th and ends Nov. 4th. Practices last 35 minutes which on average is a good time 5k (3.1 miles) pace race finish. Most students, due to the heat, run 2 miles during a 35-minute practice. Runners are encouraged to bring their own water bottles during these practices.

Coaches will hold practices but parents attend races with their child. Coaches are volunteers and have other obligations on weekends with their own children. Races are an additional cost and range from $15-$40 (average cost for the year $90).  Parents are responsible for turning in proof of race(s) after the race (s) has been completed.  Emails are acceptable. 

Students who have discipline problems (2 office referrals) will be dismissed from the team. If your child misses 3 practices that are unexcused or has 2 late pick-ups from practice will also be dismissed from the team. Students that are picked up late will be sent to ASP, You will be charged the after school fee.

Pick up is on the playground side of the gym at 3:25. If 3:30 does not work for you, your child will be placed in ASP (at your cost). All race info/forms can be found on the school website under roadrunners then click on forms.

We update race forms as we receive them. Any race found on Active.com will also be counted. Students must run in 4 races of their choice. 2 races must be completed by Dec. 12th to remain on the team before we re-start in March. All race forms must be mailed directly to the school or host. Do not bring race forms to the coaches.

In Roadrunners, the safety of your child is the most important priority, especially when we attend race events. Therefore, I suggest that you wear a Roadrunner T-shirt. The shirt is going to be unique to our school with the school colors on the shirt. It will be easier to spot Chapel Hill Roadrunners when he/she is running. We prefer that your child wear light-weight/comfortable shorts to run in. A form is attached for T-shirt orders. Please send in order forms ASAP so that T-shirts can immediately be purchased. I look forward to having your child as a Roadrunner and we hope that together we can make this program fun and successful experience for everyone.

         To participate, a Roadrunner membership fee of $20.00 is required……this fee does include the T-shirt. This fee will also cover the following:

 

         1. Purchase of Roadrunner letters and bars (a bar represents one Roadrunner season

         2. Any necessary Roadrunner equipment
